Highly interesting, but...
...but not recommended as an audiobook. The structure just doesn't lend it to it.
I've stopped the audio version and got myself the paperback cover, I can really recommend that one.

Good general idea…
… but weak on substance and heavily biased. In fairness, many of the examples clearly show the misguided use of metrics. But instead of offering depth and nuance, the author prefers to stay on the surface and cater to an audience that seeks a justification for why data, metrics, analysis, facts, and accountability have always appeared as something threatening.

How to bore your readers!
This is a good example of how to repeat the single idea over and over again to come up with enough pages for a book. Exhaustingly boring after the introduction that could also been cut in half.

Basically regurgitating what is already known. With a clear political agenda
The book is, as the author clearly states up front, basically him regurgitating what is already known.
The twist, though shining through throughout the book, becomes clear in the end. When the author talks about the fact that transparency especially from governments is detrimental for society. That FOIAs are actually harming society. And that whistleblowers like Snowden and Manning were dangerously harming the US.
With that clear political agenda open in the end, the fact that people abuse metrics and accountability is nice to have summarized in a book one can listen to on a longer drive.
