Inhaltsangabe

Ray Dalio, one of the world's most successful investors and entrepreneurs, shares the unconventional principles that he's developed, refined, and used over the past 40 years to create unique results in both life and business - and which any person or organization can adopt to help achieve their goals.

In 1975, Ray Dalio founded an investment firm, Bridgewater Associates, out of his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Forty years later, Bridgewater has made more money for its clients than any other hedge fund in history and has grown into the fifth most important private company in the United States, according to Fortune magazine. Dalio himself has been named to Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Along the way, Dalio discovered a set of unique principles that have led to Bridgewater's exceptionally effective culture, which he describes as "an idea meritocracy that strives to achieve meaningful work and meaningful relationships through radical transparency". It is these principles, and not anything special about Dalio - who grew up an ordinary kid in a middle-class Long Island neighborhood - that he believes are the reason behind his success.

In Principles, Dalio shares what he's learned over the course of his remarkable career. He argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. The book's hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of "radical truth" and "radical transparency", include Dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams. He also describes the innovative tools the firm uses to bring an idea meritocracy to life, such as creating "baseball cards" for all employees that distill their strengths and weaknesses and employing computerized decision-making systems to make believability-weighted decisions. While the book brims with novel ideas for organizations and institutions, Principles also offers a clear, straightforward approach to decision making that Dalio believes anyone can apply, no matter what they're seeking to achieve.

Here, from a man who has been called both "the Steve Jobs of investing" and "the philosopher king of the financial universe" (CIO magazine), is a rare opportunity to gain proven advice unlike anything you'll find in the conventional business press.

Very analytical approach

I guess there are people out there who can make better use of this book. I've made a point in listening to the end.

BUT: I was annoyed from the moment when he explained how he made his Money. I don't think that gambling on food prices is a good way of earning Money. And even when he found it enjoyable, there were other people in this world who suffered greatly because of this game.

He goes further on in explaining, that he could find out the prices for meat, by understanding the "Machines" that produce meat. Well I prefer calling them animals. And these living beings are way more that meat producing machines. But that's maybe a little bit more American way on looking at it. This might also explain, why we have no use for your produced food. It's cheap and lacks quality.

I hoped this would be an inspiring book on falueable life principles. But it's more about making a business effective. There are some good points, for example, that friendship is way more falueable than money.

But in the end this book ist most helpful for people that wanna understand how efficiency and quality in a business can be achieved.

When I look out the window I see a dying forest every day. I do not care for maximal growth of any business anymore. That is why I can not recommend this book without restriction.

Much Love, Stefan 💚

Openmindedness, Truth and Excellence

Building a culture of excellence – Ray Dalio is a sharp thinker who likes to have his thinking sharpened. Do that for a lifetime and you'll end up pretty sharp. This book makes a plea for radical openmindedness, truth and the pursuit of excellence. The mindset documented here is not for the faint-hearted and much less for those seeking a quick fix formula. Ray Dalio wants you to play a long game – and play it well. Get this book if you're looking for a timeless perspective on greatness in every act. It will add up like compound interest.

Die "Principles" sind auf dem Niveau gehalten "if you want a shaped body and you eat chips, stop eating chips." Wow. Applaus.

Unpassed knowledge is wasted

Picture having the opportunity to sit back, with a bourbon in hand, and be given a lifetime of knowledge on economics, finance, business management and morality from the wisest person you could hope to know. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with all his conclusions, though it's hard to find many faults, you have to respect that they were drawn from trial and error, through the sharpest of lenses, time.

Not bad, some ideas are interesting

Not a bad book. Skip the autobiography. I also liked the life principles better than work principles.

Great book

The first half of the book is literally the best book I’ve ever consumed. The second part goes into a different perspective which is also interesting, but didn’t glue me to the book as the first half. Nevertheless, 100% recommended
