A hundred years before Ender's Game, humans thought they were alone in the galaxy. Humanity was slowly making their way out from Earth to the planets and asteroids of the Solar System, exploring and mining and founding colonies.
The mining ship El Cavador is far out from Earth, in the deeps of the Kuiper Belt, beyond Pluto. Other mining ships, and the families that live on them, are few and far between this far out. So when El Cavador's telescopes pick up a fast-moving object coming in-system, it's hard to know what to make of it. It's massive and moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light.
But the ship has other problems. Their systems are old and failing. The family is getting too big. There are claim-jumping corporates bringing Asteroid Belt tactics to the Kuiper Belt. Worrying about a distant object that might or might not be an alien ship seems…not important.
They're wrong. It's the most important thing that has happened to the human race in a million years. This is humanity's first contact with an alien race. The First Formic War is about to begin.

Good science fiction
Good story overall, good technical descriptions for those of us who like that. My only big issue is that the Author doesn't seem to fully understand how movement in space and relative velocity work. It's somewhat immersion breaking at some points.

Im suspicious of the author but enjoyed the book
Enders shadow was my first book by Mr Card, it was good but the film version of Ender didn’t do the novels any justice, this story was great.

great but...
the story, or idea is great but, to me, the physics and details is just too weak at a few intervals; i mean, speed? in space? have to break/stop for EVAs? i had expected more from the mind behind Ender's game. (Relative velocity, come on, how hard is that to grasp?)

Absolut grandioses Storytelling
Ich muss zugeben, dass ich voreingenommen bin, da Card mein absoluter Lieblingsautor ist, aber zu hören, wie es zu den Formic Kriegen kommt, finde ich grandios!
Das Storytelling ist wie immer fabelhaft. Nicht zu Persönlich, vorwegnehmend oder kompliziert; selbst, wenn es eigentlich eine komplizierte Sache ist, die beschrieben wird. Die Geschichte ist unglaublich interessant und spannend gemacht. Auch die Charaktere sind angenehm vielschichtig und man kann sich irgendwie in jeden hineinversetzen. Selbst den größten Arsch überhaupt. Wer bereits Card Bücher kennt, der wird vllt ab und zu bekannte Ideen oder Verhaltensmuster erkennen, aber ich finde das gibt dem ganzen noch mehr Eigencharakter.
Sehr, sehr großer Fan von der Ender Reihe, Orson Scott Card und seinen Welten

Back to the roots
If you liked "Enders Game", you will love this book! While the later Ender/Shadow sequels were mostly philosophical in nature, this one returns to the fast paced style of the original. There is a lot more action, yet "Earth Unaware" does not sacrifice any of the deep character relations which are the hallmark of OSC's writing. The voice acting is great and helps to emphasize the different character perspectives. All in all a superb prequel!

Great performance.
Was a fine Store and great performance. A couple of detail mistakes but as cars has said before it’s more like a story told from the characters perspective so a couple of miss remembered details are to be expected
