... the narrator in this book changed from Vikas Adams to Luke Daniels and I must admit that this was a terrible change.
As much as I love listening to Luke Daniels in The Iron Druid Chronicles I really missee Vikas Voice here.
Vikas gave the characters a way betzer distinction and speech pattern fitting to them while Lukes versions seemed kinda bland. I loved the conversations from Cal when spoken by Vikas and his way of making every talk between Dani and Cal a great fun to listen to. I somehow missed Cals funny side completly under Lukes narrating.

About the story... its weaker then the first 3 books but still fun to read. I just suggest to get the ebook for part 5 instead of the audiobook as witch parts 1-4.

Luke Daniels might not be bad but i could not differenciate the voices anymore gonna buy it as an e book only one of the series I will be refunding because I can not keep up concentration.

The first four books were so perfectly narrated, that I was really shocked by the fifth. just the speaker changing made it hard to listen to.
no matter why the speaker changed, what bad briefing did he get? "MC was a shepherd, became dungeon. end."?!
and probably missing to tell him, that Dani is female?

ist aber leider schwerer zu verstehen. der Ton mancher Charaktere hat sich teils stark verändert, sodass man diese nur schwer wiedererkennt. 30 Prozent der Charaktere hören sich für mich an als wären sie betrunken

I really go enjoy this series. The characters have a unique feeling to them and each one with different intents and wishes. The story is well written and I simply adore the genre of expanding, influence and power building structures such as dungeons or even people or groups.

The only negative is the change in narrator. I have not heard any books with this speaker before and i cannot say that he is a good fit for this genre. Where the first one used different intonations and accents to underline the different people. The new one simply reads his lines. It is at times hard to figure out who is talking to whom and the overall immersion for the characters, which was build from the first book on just crumbles, if there is no effort on the side of the speaker. Especially, if a southern (I have to imagine it is southern, I am not native to the USA) accent is chosen for a world which is not very heavy on american accents.It simply felt wrong and killed all joy I had for the book at the time.

I do hope there will be a next one as I am at the point of this review not done listening to it. And I hope the first narrator will pick this book up again in the future.

Alle charaktere klingen plötzlich ganz anders. der neue sprecher verteilt munter neue akzente und macht mir den hörfluss und übergang vom vorgänger kaputt.

I do not why they speaker changed, but this made it a bit difficult to adapt to the characters. Especially when bindge listening.

I will assume that mr Krout did not have much choice regarding the narrator and just go ahead with that. Still Luke Daniels did not take any leads from the previous books and that made it hard to even recognize certain characters. Its good that this is the last book in the series. That said.. I really liked the series overall and hope Mr. Krout will continue to write.
