And then nobody has any original ideas on how to combat their problems, for example after they establish that the core can be found even if they go deeper into the dungeon nobody brings up the possibility to lure the attackers in traps while slowly retreating.
It's also really annoying when characters get a power-up but they can't ever use it because of circumstances, like how the protagonist gets a mana power-up but shortly after he gets that power-up he's constantly low on mana.
