And this is probably the only downside of the book.
This book is about the people, not about the war, which is merely a background to tie it all together.
Since the way the military has to do doesn't change much over a conflict, it gets somewhat repetitive.
So if you like books about people and their thoughts and sorrows, this is for you. If you are looking for an epic book about a war between two different species this might get a bit boring after the second arc.
Wonderful book, but maybe not for all people.

This book is about fights.
Decisions.
Politics.
Development of a person.
The MC grows to be a respectable guy over time. From the scumbag he mostly was early.
By a bit of a thick plot armor, he survives a few situations. And the story goes on.
Overall it was quite enjoyable. I still have like 10 hours to go. But i think it's not gonna change alot in this ^^.
Good solid sci-fi battle stuff. With some fantasy space warping stuff, so people don't need to travel 400 years to the next star.
As 8 hours audiobooks i wouldn't have bought it. As its not often those military type novels are good in my opinion. But this long 4er squad pack did well enough. Even if 8 would have been better, for the religion of the weird aliens ^^.
PS: The only reason it really gets a star less. Is that autonomous stuff isn't used by both sides. I get the whole semi AI or full AI condrum. But the author mostly did so, that drop troopers and co have any meaning at all. As politican i would still have just bombed the core world of the enemy from orbit, by rocks. And then all the others too. In one fell swoop. Who cares that those habitables will be fucked up for a few hundreth or thousand years. One less problem on the stage xD. It's not like you have a population and space problem. But that problem is in all sci-fi books. ;D there needs to be a reason they just dont drop rocks at each other. Religion. Politics. Etc.
