For over 30 years, Dominion of Blades has been the hottest online role-playing game in the world. Any gamer with an immersion rig can enter the world of sword and sorcery, of goblins and dragons, and they can hack and slash their way to glory. But the game is too real for some, and after an epidemic of real-life fatalities, public use of the immersion technology has been banned, causing the game to be shut down.
Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. With only two companions, trapped in a world that once hosted millions, Jonah must battle his way across a treacherous landscape, fighting virtual monsters, all too real pain, and a very human enemy in a desperate bid to survive.

Matt Dinniman makes LitRPG work
After exhausting audible’s library of decent science fiction and classical fantasy novels (yes hyperbole), I came across the rather niche genre of LitRPG and was appalled.
Who would write such mindless drivel, replacing storytelling with … statistics of all things; the asinine background-plots devised for justifying the transplantation of supposedly life characters into nerdy games; the endless and insultingly cliche monologues of endbosses to be defeated. At times I felt as tortured and disgusted as the protagonists were in those books.
However - along came Matt Dinniman and proved to me that the limitations inherent to the LitRPG genre can become actual assets. The backstory introduces an interesting and continuously developing counterpoint to the main narrative and is actually believable and entertaining. The characters‘ depth and development goes far beyond elevation in strength and endurance levels and makes the reader care for even the sidekicks.
Consequently, I enjoyed the first novel of dominion of blades very much and am happy to continue listening to the series. The same applies to the (perhaps even a tad better) series dungeon crawler Carl series.

Best Litrpg this year!!!
Würden Sie dieses Hörbuch einem Freund empfehlen? Wenn ja, was würden Sie ihm dazu sagen?
This is the best Litrpg i have read in a long time, very original building a extremely compeling story that i just could not stop listening to. I can not wait for the next book, I would recommend this book to long standing Litrpg and fantasy fans and people just starting out in the genre both.

Another Masterpiece from Matt Dinniman
Great story.
Great gameplay mechanics.
MC feels human and has understandable struggles.
I really like that it's a standalone conclusive story.

Awsome world, story a bit stressful
The world and the characters are awsome. Sadly they can't take the time to explore the world because they have to rush for good reasons.

It's alright
They main characters are a transgender person, a lesbian and a grown man stuck in the body of a small girl.
Do what you will with this information.
Besides that, its an alright LitRPG Story.
