A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook
Gryphonne IV is dead – one of the mightiest forge worlds in the arsenal of the Adeptus Mechanicus, succumbed to the relentless hunger of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Devoured. Lost.
The few magi that survive drift in idleness, robbed of purpose and direction. But there is one who rejects that fate.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
It’s the gripping tale of an Explorator desperately seeking ancient technologies from humanity’s past as she races against time to restore one of the mightiest forge worlds in the Imperium.

If you like admac i can reomand this book, it could have been a litte shorter but it has some nice knight and admac and guard stuff in the book, the blot at the end is a litte classic warhammer but its fun.
Is it better than the Lord of Mars books, no, but if you want some Admac and some nice setting this is great. I had a good time.

Good start, but weak/fast ending
I love Admech and their logical/hypocritical thinking and I hope this army gets more books.
Narration:
But this book was hard to "read".
The narrator has a comfy voice to listen to, but she has a very small range in her voice, which made it difficult to know who's talking at which point. Especially if there are multiple characters talking one after another and "he said - she said" isn't used.
The one character to get a accent was very enjoyable and stood out in every scene she was in.
This sadly can't be said for the main character. After her self-introduction in the beginning, she drowns in the pool of other soundalike characters.
One of the enemies gets their own speechpattern but that's it.
The book:
After 8 hours of very interesting wolrd building this journey arrives at its destination.
After that point things happen very fast, the enemy to overcome is introduced and the cast has to survive.
One part I really enjoyed was the little (and only) part that had some comedic interaction between a tech adept and some Las-pack's.
The rest of the book is very stern and doesn't give much space to relieve this tension.
The spirit of 40K is deeply engraved in this book.
In the last hour a very surprising faction is introduced, but not much comes of it and lorewise it doesn't make sense for this faction to be at that specific place. The planet would have been an better option.
While "reading" this book I had the feeling this was part one of a bigger line of Admech books coming and I do hope there is more on the way, but this book seems to be just one cohesive story.
If more was to come from J.D.Beer I'd wish for a more colorful world in regard to the Admech themselves. The wolrd/ship is interesting, but just writing that every techpriest is different, doesn't make them different. The desging of the characters was different from one another, that was nice to read/hear, but they didn't behave very different from another. Maybe more written speechpatterns other than just the description of the sound.
