Über diesen Titel
I'm a country boy, born and raised. He's new in town and all city.
Bronc riding has always been my main focus. The plan was simple: work hard, go pro, and show the world what I was made of. It hasn't been easy, but I did it through dedication and a whole lot of determination.
My dreams came true, my life more than fulfilled… Or so I thought. I never knew how much I ached for more until I stopped to help a stranger on the side of a one-lane road one chilly fall afternoon.
He couldn't be more different than me, with his messy curls and the chipped black polish. But from the moment he fumbled over his words, flustered and tense, sitting in the driver's seat of his broken-down ride, I knew I wanted to know more. Know everything. This all-consuming need to get to know him, to get close to him, is new.
He's only in town for a short while, Copper Lake merely a temporary stop. Getting close to him is foolish… But there's no way I can stop it. Not when he makes me feel things I've never felt before.
What happens when he goes back to the city, and I'm left in the dust, watching his tail lights disappear down the dirt road?
©2024 Ashley James (P)2024 Podium AudioThis book shows Cope’s emotional journey in the most authentic, tender way. Watching him slowly develop feelings for another man felt natural and heartfelt. It never felt rushed or forced — just real and full of quiet, meaningful moments.
And honestly, how could anyone not fall for Xander? My god… these guys and Ashley James’s MM stories always make me so much more emotional than most MF romances ever do. There’s just something about how she writes connection and vulnerability between two men that hits me right in the heart every time.
Xander is this laid-back, big-hearted city boy who comes to Copper Lake to help his aunt on her farm after her surgery. There, he meets her rugged, bronc-rider neighbor — Cope. From the moment they meet, the banter and chemistry between them are just pouring off the pages.
Both characters are so beautifully written. Cope is that kind, dependable, salt-of-the-earth guy next door — always willing to lend a helping hand, even to a stranger. And Xander… he’s this sweet, funny, caring city boy who puts family first and has absolutely no idea how to handle farm life or small-town living. His inner monologues were hilarious and so heartwarming — I smiled so much while listening.
I also loved that Xander was a little older (around 30) and Cope was 25. Both men are layered and mature, and their connection feels grounded and genuine. This installment is really about family, belonging, and finding home — not in a place, but in a person.
Another thing I adore about Ashley James’s writing is how she avoids unnecessary drama around sexuality. Cope’s journey of self-discovery was handled with so much care and respect. And once again, I loved how supportive and open-minded the families and side characters were — it gives every story in this series such a warm, hopeful tone.
Now, the narration — absolutely spot-on. Blake Lockheart was a new-to-me voice, and I completely fell in love with his performance as Xander. He captured every emotion — sadness, confusion, joy, goofiness, longing — all of it. You could feel Xander’s heart through his voice. Dane Anderson was equally perfect as Cope — that rugged cowboy tone, calm but full of quiet emotion. Together, they made the story come alive.
I really, really enjoyed this book. It’s tender, emotional, romantic, and full of warmth — another beautiful addition to the Copper Lake series.

A heartfelt, slow-burn small-town romance that reminds you love can bloom in the most unexpected places. Highly recommend the whole series. 🤍
