Über diesen Titel
With the ideology of democracy under more global scrutiny than ever in the wake of the war on Iraq and suspicions over election results, David Beetham offers new insights into democracy. He looks at real examples such as the role of the citizen and how large corporations affect democracy as well as contemplating the future of democracy in the developed and developing worlds.©2005 David Beetham (P)2012 Bolinda Publishing Islam Politik & Regierungen Welt

Beschreibung von Audible

For many people, democracy is often taken for granted. But this introduction to the topic from renowned social theorist David Beetham, whose lengthy résumé includes consulting on democracy with organizations like the Council of Europe, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and UNESCO, will provoke listeners to take pause and reconsider what this form of government means. Beginning with a definition and justification of democracy, this audiobook then moves on to more critical topics, such as sources of disillusionment within democracy. Voice performer Andrea Powell's smooth and nuanced narration elevates the material, making for an engrossing and thought-provoking listening experience.

“A strong and shrewd mixture of analysis and polemic…If more was not to come, I would call this the author's crowning achievement.” (Sir Bernard Crick – Advisor On Citizenship To The UK Government)
