Über diesen Titel

In the vast dominion of Seven Cities, in the Holy Desert Raraku, the seer Sha’ik and her followers prepare for the long-prophesied uprising known as the Whirlwind. Unprecedented in size and savagery, this maelstrom of fanaticism and bloodlust will embroil the Malazan Empire in one of the bloodiest conflicts it has ever known, shaping destinies and giving birth to legends.....

Set in a brilliantly realized world ravaged by dark, uncontrollable magic, this thrilling novel of war, intrigue, and betrayal confirms Steven Erikson as a storyteller of breathtaking skill, imagination, and originality - a new master of epic fantasy.

Kritikerstimmen

"Give me the evocation of a rich, complex, and yet ultimately unknowable other world, with a compelling suggestion of intricate history and mythology and lore. Give me mystery amid the grand narrative. Give me a world in which every sea hides a crumbled Atlantis, every ruin has a tale to tell, every mattock blade is a silent legacy of struggles unknown. Give me, in other words, the fantasy work of Steven Erikson." (Andrew Leonard, Salon)

Erikson hits his stride in this book. The narration is still very good, even though I think the Narrator would have benefited from reading the entire series before the reading. highly recommended

Even better!

very good story from Eriksen. the narrator was also very good and made the voices distinct enough even with such a large cast. The last part of the book had such real violence (non-gorey) that I need a short break before Memories of Ice (book 3) but I will definitely continue with the series.

Great story again

The book is interesting but poorly writen and with a wast cast of characters all speaking with a similar stillted and pretentious dialog, even the best narrator couldn't have that many distinct voices or avoid the dialog sounding like amateur theater once read aloud.

On top of that the book lacks a driving plot, it just a serious of imaginative and interesting "random encounters". The actual plot of the book is only slowly revealed towards the end, until then you just follow characters that seems to wander around and into ever new disasters for no particular reason.

Good but flawed book ill-suited for narration
