Already “The Good Samaritan” disturbed me a fair amount, but this one is even darker and more claustrophobic. And then, it turns out to be a crossover with Laura making her reappearance - and in what fashion…. Those who are familiar with John Marrs are likely to anticipate some of the twists, but surely not all of them. The story is quite complex and as I said, very dark. People with a dislike for the ‘supernatural’ (even though, in the end, it’s more about a suppressed conscience than something supernatural) will probably struggle with the book. I thought that this was as good as The Good Samaritan which is my favourite John Marrs book.
