Über diesen Titel
Libby Day was just seven years old when her older brother massacred her family while she hid in a cupboard. Her evidence helped put him away. Ever since then she has been drifting, surviving for over 20 years on the proceeds of the 'Libby Day fund'. But now the money is running out and Libby is desperate. When she is offered $500 to do a guest appearance, she feels she has to accept. But this is no ordinary gathering. The Kill Club is a group of true-crime obsessives who share information on notorious murders, and they think her brother Ben is innocent.
Ben was a social misfit, ground down by the small-town farming community in which he lived. But he did have a girlfriend - a brooding heavy metal fan called Diondra. Through her, Ben became involved with drugs and the dark arts. When the town suddenly turned against him, his thoughts turned black. But was he capable of murder? Libby must delve into her family's past to uncover the truth - no matter how painful...©2009 Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn is the real deal, a sharp, acerbic, and compelling storyteller with a knack for the macabre
Gillian Flynn's writing is compulsively good. I would rather read her than just about any other crime writer
With her blistering debut Sharp Objects, Gillian Flynn hit the ground running. Dark Places demonstrates that was no fluke
Dark Places grips you from the first page and doesn't let go
Flynn's second novel is a wonderful evocation of drab small-town life. The time-split narrative works superbly and the atmosphere is eerily macabre-Dark Places is even better than the author's award-winning Sharp Objects.
This is only Flynn's second crime novel . . . and demonstrates even more forcibly her precocious writing ability and talent for the macabre
Dark Places, Flynn's second novel, confirms her exceptional talent
Gutsy, atmospheric and suspense-loaded
Flynn's well-paced story deftly shows the fallibility of memory and the lies a child tells herself to get through a trauma.
Libby, a young woman with some serious problems sets out to solve a murder mystery, which overshadowed her whole life and made it nearly impossible for her to get back to some normality. 20 years ago her mother and 2 sisters were cruelly murdered and her testimony was crucial in sending her brother Ben to prison for life. She knows very well that some of what she told as a young child to the police and later to the court was not completely true.
The story unfolds slowly and we immerse into the stuffiness of small town America in the sixties. There is the hunger for life of pubescent children, the poverty and misery of small farmers struggling with the change of the economy, there are drugs, alcohol and violence and all of that culminates in the brutal murder of a woman and 2 small girls.
The prose matches the story perfectly and the narrative structure supports the concept of uncovering old secrets. History is told in third person while current events are told in the first person by Libby.
It is a great read and even if the story is full of cruelty and violence, there is also some humor to be found now and then.
