Etwas anstrengend an diesem Buch ist die Tatsache, dass es aus der ICH-Perspektive gesprochen wird. Häufig wird erst nach einem Dialog klar, ob Elena ihn gesprochen oder bei sich gedacht hat, da die Sprecherin keinen stimmlichen Unterschied macht. Wenn man von Tami Hoag die Oack Knoll Serie gelesen hat fällt es einem erst einmal schwer, mit dem anfänglich selbstzerstörerischen Charakter der Elena klar zu kommen. Im Verlauf des Buches findet Elena aber langsam zu sich selbst und Geschichte und Spannung steigern das Tempo hin zu einem rasanten Finale.
