Summary

The heroine Darcie, supposedly so very intelligent, is more painfully naive than Catherine Moorland from Northanger Abbey, always doing the wrong thing and coming to the obviously wrong conclusions. one seriously wonders how she has survived in Whitechapel even for five minutes. She is totally erratic in her thoughts and behaviours, almost starving and only just making it to wherever she is going in the first pages, only to, once there, think suddenly better of it and trying to flee, still starvinghalfdeaddrenched, to... nowhere, because she has nowhere else to go.
The author herself seems to forget constantly how little time has supposedly passed, so that wounds heal way too quickly, a horrible day is suddenly the best day ever.
Also, someone should mention to the author that synonyms are a thing. Darcie Finch constantly "fists" things, by which the author means bunching up fabric in her fist. i was ready to scream by the end when that word came AGAIN. as uninspired and repetitive a use of word as the trite action it describes.
Do not recommend.
The reader is good, though.
