Reasonably solid story marred by underlying racism

Patricia Briggs is a really good writer, but this is not one of her best in my opinion. Also really not a fan of the performer - I dislike his voice for Charles very much.
On top of that I am beginning to feel a bit icky about a white person writing Native American characters to this extent and using Native American culture to fit her story. I couldn’t find anything on her website about the research she does, wether she consults any Native Americans or how Native American communities view her books. The thing that really got to me was her use of the word „exotic“ twice to describe Charles‘ features - that is just wrong on all levels. A Native American person can technically not be exotic on the American continent - that would be white people - and a well-intentioned author and editor should really do better than reproducing racism like this.
