Über diesen Titel

Kate Winters, author of the popular mystery series The Masters, finds herself in a bit of a predicament - she doesn't seem to be able to write any longer. So when her old friend and wealthy widow Brenda invites Kate to spend the summer in Coyote, New Mexico, Kate decides that a summer in Coyote might be just what she needs to clear her writer's block.

Leaving behind the Dallas heat - and her girlfriend, Robin - Kate retreats to the high mountain desert and soon finds herself surrounded by Brenda's eccentric friends and artists. But it's the local sheriff, Lee Foxx, who soon grabs her attention. It doesn't take long for Kate to discover that Lee has a penchant for dating the young tourists that flock to the river canyon each summer - and that Lee has no intention of ever settling down.

Then an unexpected visit by Kate's girlfriend sends everyone scrambling. Torn between safety and desire, Kate has no idea which way to turn. And as for Lee - she can't quite believe that she's actually fallen in love...for the very first time in her life.

It's such a cute story. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Plus: An absolute stunning performance by Abby Craden - as usual 👏

Loved it

The protagonist is a total narcissist. I mean who let’s their partner wait for days, not letting them know, whether they’ve arrived safely at their travel destination. That is just mean and terribly inconsiderate!

This story hast just one problem:

Contains Spoilers!

The protagonist felt insufferable to me. Right from the beginning she treats her (later) love interest hostile, aggressively judging her, for the amount of sex she chooses to have with consenting adults.

Meanwhile she is the one cheating continously on her partner, assuming she is in a monogamous relationship. Yet she keeps whining about 10 times too often about her love interests PREVIOUS sexlife, lying to herself and others about her feelings, communicating like a jerk all the time, disbelieving her love interst when she discloses REPEATETLY she is into het, had not been sleeping with anyone else since they had met etc. Meanwhile sge is the one in.a (supposedly). monogamous relationship, cheating, but continues to attack the other woman cause she brings random dates to events they both go to.

It's painful to hear her go on and on in this entitled way about how morally horrible her love interest is for sleeping with younger women and being promiscous.

I liked the premise, it had a lot potential. But i found the lead annoying, entitled and there was no moral "reckoning", i wished her older friend or her love interst would tell her off at some point, due to her hypocritical behavior.

Also: there us a Dialog in the book where lead + love interest debate who os 'suitable' to date her, and the "a femme has to date a butch cause who will do the repairs around the house if theres no masculine woman in the relationship"... would have been fine tongue in cheek or ironically, but presented in a serious way was just...painful.
😅

Other than than, it's an interesting story, I enjoyed the setting and slow burn at the beginning (before the 15th time of "you fuck everything you can" lamenting of the lead), i also liked the landscape and social setting of the story.

Good premise, but a whiny entitled lead who's a moral hyprocit
