loved every second of it ❤️
I love Greek mythology and this is such a beautifully, clever reimagining of it! the writing style is vivid and vibrant and together with the sultry voice of Perdita Weeks made me almost taste the salty sea air.
It is truly beautiful and inspiring!

One of - if not my favourite book
I’ve listened to this audiobook twice now, read the book at least 2 times. I love how Madeline Miller brings the stories of gods and goddesses, monsters and heroes to life so easily. Finishing the book always leaves me in a special mood, sad it’s finished, longing for more. Giddily almost for I enjoyed it so much. Absolutely one of the best books ever written <3

great. but not an easy read.
there is wisdom in this book. and the thoughts will stay with after youre done reading. however, it is not always an easy book to read and it cant really by read or listened to in passing.

A very genuine perspective on greek mythology
Madeline Miller erzählt eine sehr originelle, fantasievolle und bildgewaltige Variation der griechischen Mythologie, die traditionell immer männerdominiert war aus der Sicht einer weiblichen Protagonistin: Der Göttertochter Circe.
Aus ihrer Perspektive gesehen erscheinen altbekannte Bestandteile von Heldenepen in einem völlig neuen Licht. Miller gelingt es aus Fragmenten der Mythologie ein überraschendes aber in sich konsistentes und plausibles neues Gebäude aus fantasievollen und farbenprächtigen Eindrücken zu zimmern.
Miller nimmt sich durchaus die eine oder andere Freiheit in ihren Darstellungen, die von der klassischen Erzählung abweichen.
Jedoch entsteht nie der Eindruck es mit Verfälschungen zu tun zu haben, sondern immer mit Ausschmückung, Variation und mitunter auch Richtigstellung.
Circes tragische Geschichte erzählt sie ohne Pathos, dafür aber mit spürbarer Empathie für ihre Heldinnen und mit dem gebührenden Respekt vor den klassischen Protagonisten, ohne dass dabei der Eindruck entsteht, dass sie eine Rechnung mit der Männerwelt zu begleichen gehabt hätte.
Man kann daher getrost sagen, dass Miller unsere Literatur um eine wertvolle Facette bereichert hat.
