Christina Rossetti
‘Choose love not in the shallows but in the deep.’
Deeply moving and beautifully written, this gorgeous collection of poetry showcases the pivotal works of Chrsitina Rossetti: one of the most significant poets in English literary history.
With a rare blend of tenderness and strength, Rossetti’s verse moves seamlessly between longing, the spiritual divine and subtle rebellion. From the haunting sensuality of ‘Goblin Market’ to the joyous simplicity in ‘A Birthday’ and the aching grief of ‘Good Friday’, this collection illustrates Rossetti’s unparalleled gift at penning love poetry and devotional verse. With deceptive simplicity and vivid imagery, she cleverly questions desire, duty and mortality with unflinching candour, each line carrying a unique clarity that has the power to captivate readers to this very day.
Christina Rossetti (1830 – 1894) was an English poet from the Pre-Raphaelite movement. She is famed for her romantic and devotional poems, which explored pain, death and the tensions between desire and religious faith. She was the sister of artist and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and often featured in his paintings. Today, Rossetti is regarded as one of the Victorian era’s most significant poets.
