Gildart Jackson does an excellent job bringing this story alive. It's dark and brings more depth to the whole universe

dark but entertaining

Like Cursed, Chosen is really taking the series to the next level. For the first time we get to know Verus' dark past (pun intended) and more about the people in it. Too bad the main plot is so repetitive and Will is an unbelievably stupid character. If you try to kill someone and then accuse that same person that he is as bad as you thought because he is trying to defend himself...that is just plainly stupid. Unfortunately, that is 60% of the plot of the story. Will just does not work as a character and because of that the plot is weakend as well. But all in all it was enjoyable to listen to at those times I did not want to shout "What are you talking about? YOU wanted to kill him, how can you seriously blame him for defending himself???".

Pretty good if not for that one thing

So far Alex Verus has been helping others and trying to avoid entanglements with either dark or white mages, but now it is personal. He is the chosen target of a posse seeking revenge for things from his past. Only by using all his skills and through his friend’s efforts he survives but he has not only to face his past as the apprentice of a dark mage but also to tell his friends about it – thereby alienating them.

It is very interesting that in contrast to the magic world of Jim Butcher’s Dresden-novels where the hero has to act like the lone sheriff in a western film, the setting in the Verus-series is much more British. There is a mostly hidden establishment and woe behold if you cross the line of “one of us”…

With this installment the series has reached a level of quality and originality that is simply excellent! A gripping, emotional tale with a sly humor, superbly performed by Gildart Jackson this audio book is pure joy. I just regret that not all of them are available via audible, but after all there is still print.

Eine im doppelten Wortsinn fantastische Geschichte

The Entire book feels like an excuse for the last two chapters. The plot is streched over the length of the whole book. If tightened up it could have made for a great first act of a book, as it is, it's very long and repetitive filler.
