As battle explodes across the planet, Ciaphas Cain and his regiment come up against allies and enemies old and new in their fight for victory against the forces of Chaos.

...some of the brainless moments in this book are at times really frustrating.
When two Inquisitors of all people, one from Xenos and one from Malleus, are in the same room, who are both aware of the presence of a Slaanesh cult, but have no idea why several soldiers are collecting Eldar spirit stones on mass based on someones orders, even though at least one of them is aware to some degree at least, that Eldar souls might or might not be stored in them and that apparently Slaanesh finds these souls rather tasty, then you know you have reach some level of plot convenience, that not even Jürgen could be the root of. The same goes for the final encounter. When literally everyone including Cain himself and the (nigh unstoppable) enemy are pointing out what the source of said enemies power is and only one prolonged battle later Cain suddenly gets the idea that maybe taking away this power source might be a good idea.
For the first time I am quite a little bit disappointed with a Cain book. I hope the next one, which was just announced will be a little bit better.
Typical Cain.... with some untypical frustrations.
