Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

The audiobook of Carpe Jugulum is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Steven Cree (Outlander; A Discovery of Witches) voices the Nac Mac Feegles. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

"'Carpe Jugulum,' read Agnes aloud. 'That's . . . well, Carpe Diem is Seize the Day, so this means -'
'
Go for the throat . . .'"

Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic.

The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet.

Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders . . .

'An enduring, endearing presence in comic literature' Guardian

'Incredibly funny . . . compulsively readable' The Times

Carpe Jugulum is the sixth book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Just as the books before this audiobook presents another great story told by an amazing performer.

Another great performance!

When doing less would be more.
Indira Varmas standard narration-voice is wonderful, but of course, being the outstanding actress she is, the characters tend to get over-performed. An audiobook is a different beast than a stage. A directors/producers mistake, I'd say.
There's a lot of shrill, high-pitched loudness one second, whispering the next. Too much range. Over the course of many hours, that's not exactly relaxing... At the same time, the casting of Bill Nighy looks great on paper, but his befuddled, sleepy voice is just wrong for the cheeky smugness of Terry Pratchett's footnotes. (It should have been... Jeremy Irons?)
That being said, it's great to have those books recorded with contemporary audio-quality.

Too good to be perfect?

It's easy to understand the speakers reading. Especially with the fantasy genre and as none native English speaking listener, this is very pleasant.
The story is one of my favorite ones from Terry Pratchett. Can't help but reading it once a while again.

Very strong in story and reading

I usually prefer to listen to male narrators, since some females are too high pitched for me, or I just can't follow their speachpattern or -rythm.
So I cautiously bought this one - and it's fantastic. Never over the top, never nerve-wracking for me and such a warm and lovely and LIVELY voice. I am super grateful for this Granny experience. Indira really added a layer of personality to her :)

story: if you don't know the story by now....it's great. Pratchett is great. What have you been doing with you life?
;)

That is one amazing listening experience!

wonderfully narrated. Indira Varmas voice is great and she seems to be having much fun with the different characters.

A wonderful book

As wonderful as all of Terry Pratchett's books, Fantastically read, humorous and at the same time full of wisdom. Another adventure that I'll listen to over and over again!

Exciting Story
