Über diesen Titel

Meta wants to silence her voice. You can hear her words.

'Devastating . . . funny . . . highly enjoyable . . . A Bridget Jones’s Diary-style tale of a young woman thrown into a series of improbable situations' The Times

'Jaw-dropping . . . A tell-all tome' Financial Times

Sarah Wynn-Williams, a young diplomat from New Zealand, pitched for her dream job. She saw Facebook’s potential and knew it could change the world for the better. But, when she got there and rose to its top ranks, things turned out a little different.

From wild schemes cooked up on private jets to risking prison abroad, Careless People exposes both the personal and political fallout when boundless power and a rotten culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative, Wynn-Williams rubs shoulders with Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg and world leaders, revealing what really goes on among the global elite – and the consequences this has for all of us.

Candid and entertaining, this is an intimate memoir set amid powerful forces. As all our lives are upended by technology and those who control it, Careless People will change how you see the world.

Darkly funny and genuinely shocking: an ugly, detailed portrait of one of the most powerful companies in the world. What Wynn-Williams reveals will undoubtedly trigger her former bosses’ ire. Not only does she have the storytelling chops to unspool a gripping narrative; she also delivers the goods
Devastating . . . Wynn-Williams is a sharp and funny writer . . . a highly enjoyable read — a Bridget Jones’s Diary-style tale of a young woman thrown into a series of improbable situations
Jaw-dropping . . . A tell-all tome
Amazing: of all the books in all the world Mr Free Speech Zuckerberg wants to ban, it’s the one about him (Marina Hyde, The Guardian)
A shocking, darkly funny and highly critical exposé
A morality tale for our times . . . How else to put this? – bloody hell
Staggering . . . spectacular
Urgently necessary reading (Elizabeth Day, author of The Party and Friendaholic)
Well-written, funny, horrifying, and quite compelling. I was on the edge of my seat, turning pages as fast as I could and ended up reading the book in less than a day. I cackled. I gasped. I laughed. I cringed. I cackled some more. I cringed some more (Roxanne Gay, author of Hunger and Bad Feminist)
Wynn-Williams writes with the kind of precise fury that can only come from someone who's been inside the beast (Jake Adelstein, journalist and author of Tokyo Vice)
Unbelievable and necessary . . . wonderfully written, propulsive, novelistic and laugh-out-loud at times (Maria Semple, bestselling author of Where'd You Go, Bernadette)
Jaw-dropping . . . It's a story that will fire you up, and make you want to fight back (Glamour)
A well-written bombshell (Jonathan Haidt, bestselling author of The Anxious Generation)
Compulsively readable . . . An addictive exposé, filled with explosive allegations . . . Writing this book is perhaps the best thing she did to help to achieve the kind of regulation we urgently need to preserve democracy
I love Careless People (Reverend Richard Coles, author of Murder Before Evensong)
A fascinating exposé of life and culture at Facebook. I couldn’t put it down. It’s high-octane drama in the real world, and it’s equal parts entertaining and horrifying (V.E. Schwab)

The author reading it herself made it so lively and real. Trigger warning: if you are a person who generally cares, it‘s hard to listen to at times because you wonder how it‘s even possible to be so careless. It really brings about the question: Where does care, responsibility, morals, ethics, integrity come from? Why do some people have it and others not at all? Can you teach that? What’s the role of one’s environment to encourage or suppress it?

Excellent!!!

A raw and necessary display of the power that tech giants have today in politics, society and its consequences. Very honest and courageously written

The book is so revealing that I am surprised she was able stop to publish it. Truly gives a much greater insight on just HOW bad this all truly is

Das Buch ist unglaublich spannend erzählt und zeigt die Abgründe von Macht und deren Strukturen, die Tech-Unternehmen über Verbraucher weltweit haben.

Schockierende Einblicke in our new world Order

Sarah’s account of her time at Facebook is captivating, distressing and thought provoking. Having a glimpse inside the inner workings of the tech giant is quite extraordinary and her diary like entries transport you back to pivotal moments in the company’s expansion. A fantastically easy and gripping read - a must read for everyone!

Well-written and well-voiced. Sarah clearly shows how pure focus on economic growth drove decision making at Meta, showing internal developments enabling atrocities in Myanmar, misinformation to spread in the 2016 US election, and targeting of particularly vulnerable users with harmful content. It was insightful to hear about the dangerous indifference in leadership at Meta, and it makes you wonder about the tech world at large. The book leads me to believe that there need to be fundamental limits to how much power (read, wealth and influence) any company or non-ellected individual should have. From a certain point onwards, they cannot be trusted with the associated responsibility and reach.

Eyeopener on the internal functioning of big tech

There were a few interesting insights into how Facebook and the management team purposefully chose money and power over ethics and people’s lives but throughout the whole book, I felt the author downplayed her role and felt very “oh everyone around me was bad and I was the only one who saw this was wrong”. I feel the authors story was not completely truthful or reliable.

Didn’t feel completely truthful
