SHE'S BEEN WATCHING US FOR SOME TIME NOW...
Sometimes I wish that she'd just leave me in peace . . .
Psychologist Evi has taken on a new patient: a grieving mother who lost her daughter in a fire two years ago - but who is convinced her little girl is still alive.
Meanwhile, the new vicar in town is not feeling welcome. Disturbing events seem designed to scare him away.
And all the while, a young boy keeps seeing a solitary girl playing among the graves in the churchyard.
But who is she, and what is she trying to tell him?
Kritikerstimmen
The reason for this is pretty straightforward: Rarely have I read a book – or listened to one for that matter – which was more engaging than “Blood Harvest” by Sharon Bolton. While the start seems to resemble something from the mystery genre, and sometimes took a bit to get through, the book’s atmospheric density starts to build up rather early. At the latest when the prologue starts making sense to the listener / reader, this book is just too good to lay aside. For the last six hours at least, the brilliantly engineered plot leads into many exciting episodes that seem to be the book’s climax. But yet, the reader just finds out that there is more around the corner and what seems to have made sense just a second ago turns inside out. And as the suspense build towards the grand finale, the greatest twists are yet to come … or are they?
And as for the technicalities: The author’s language is well crafted, all the characters are authentic, the storyline and plot are without flaw, and the development of the little moor community and its history and traditions contribute greatly to the darkening atmosphere. And all of this is masterfully transported by a great narrator (Clare Corbett), who manages to bring to life the various characters with all their different personalities and voices.
Long story short: In my humble opinion, and for all those into the crime and thriller genre, this may have the potential to be one of the best books you have ever listened to (or read). For me, in any case, this was the best buy I have made in a long time!
A brilliant plot with great suspense
