Again - either you love the book or you don't - or more likely you love Dickens - or you don't.

These are lengthly stories, lots of details and I understand when some people say "too much"...

I'm loving it though and Sean Barrett - one of the two performers of this audio book - is a great choice. Again, you need to let yourself be drawn into the story,.. decades of court time about an estate where the testator wrote several wills and nobody knows which is the right one - fortunes made and lost, lives ruined and / or lost - utter desperation... and apart from the lawyers earning a living by them, boring everyone else out of their minds or driving them crazy.

All of this Sean transports admirably - though, if you don't like Dickens, you'll find it boring, just too much...

I could sit for hours - and did - and listen to Sean's slightly disdainful voice, describing in minute detail the travails of this law suit and the people involved... slowly, monotonously, grinding you down - like it grinds down everybody involved in this law suit.

I didn't like Teresa Gallagher as much - she gives a good performance, but I was always waiting for her counterpart to come up again. Though she lightens the atmosphere of this book.

My favourite Dickens...

Dickens' Bücher sind interesssnte Beschreibungen der englischen Gesellschaft und Ideenwelt des 19. Jhds. Für heutige Leser/Hörer scheinen sie mir aber zu langatmig. Man kann es kaum erwarten bis der mäßig spannende Kriminalfall gelöst ist und die Romanzen in Heirat enden. Vielleicht eignet sich Dickens heute besser für Verfilmungen.
