The 8th Rebus novel and, according to Ian Rankin, a breakthrough as an author. Unsurprisingly! Based on the true crime Bible John case, Rankin develops multiple plots around a copycat killer and the darker sides of the Northern Scottish oil industry. The author describes John Rebus with more depth and vulnerability than before. Reappearances by characters from former Rebus novels significantly influence the DI‘s development.
Superbly narrated by James Macpherson.

To be honest, I lost track after the first 45 minutes.
The plot is rather complex or should I say complicated. The longer I listened the more difficult it became for me to keep apart the numerous characters or rather figures and their significance for the story.
