    Inhaltsangabe

Scorio will rise from the ashes to conquer the 10 layers of hell.

Reborn without memories, Scorio learns that he is a Great Soul, a legendary defender of the ancient city of Bastion. That within the hallowed halls of the Academy and under the stern eyes of the underworld’s greatest instructors he will enjoy enormous privilege, rediscover unique and wondrous powers, and one day return to the millennium-old battle against their infernal foes.

Until he is betrayed. Singled out and sentenced to die for crimes he can't remember, Scorio is hurled to his doom - and forgotten.

But from even the dimmest spark an inferno may one day rage.

Clawing his way back from oblivion, Scorio vows to return to the Academy at any cost. To emerge from the ruins and within those golden walls defeat his elite classmates in a quest to ascend the ranks and change the course of history. For only then will he learn about his forgotten past and why his enemies have rightly feared him since the day he was reborn.

    Slow start, and constant stress

The story starts rather sleep. It continues to build up momentum but unfortunately after EVERY accomplishment the MC has, some unfair disadvantage gets thrown at him throughout the entire story.

He obviously handles most of them but still, it is just stressful and frustrating to listen to this arbitrary dumbsterfire of hurdles put in the way of Skorio - he pretty much always has to react instead of being in a position of some relative power where he can influence it surroundings.

I have heard much better stories, that were captivating, fulfilling while maintaining a good balance overall.

    The narrator is outstanding tho.

Also the value (length) for money is fantastic.

So if you're missing some good old stress in your life, just listen to this story and brace for frustration.

    Liked it

The book started off rather slowly, with a few unsatisfying decisions and consequences for the MC, but it gets better and better with progressing time and at the end, it feels kinda bitter-sweet.

    great book, great narration

after i got hooked on litrpg stuff, i stumbled upon this book. it's no litrpg, but progression wise basically the same. so if you like that "against the odds - dungeoncrawler - from 0 to hero" kinda stuff then you also want to listen to this thing. its great. and also long without necessarily having to increase the speed of it. was a very pleasureable listening experience!

    Highly recommended progression Fantasy

I'm glad that I have found this gem of a book and can't wait for the next one! It has everything from what I have come to love about the progression fantasy genre and more. If you liked Cradle and the Iron Prince you will also enjoy this one. Nick Podehl does a phenomenal job of bringing the characters and the world to life. With a runtime of almost 40 hours it's a treat and I'm sad that I have already reached the end of the first book.

My only criticism is that the book would have benefitted from a slight trimming overall. I like big chunky books but similar to the Iron Prince it could have been streamlined a bit more. Nothing major though, the book overall is well edited and the story has a nice pace to it.

I especially enjoyed the characters, the interactions, the banter and their depth. They feel alive, real and complex. They are fun to be around and I look forward to seeing how they will develop and grow.

The story draws you in and has an epic scope. You also get a tremendous amount of content for just one book which is amazing.
