This was fantastic! I first became aware of the Theranos scandal when legal proceedings against its founder started back in 2021. I read up on it because it's such a fascinating and baffling story. How could this happen? How could this go on for so long? How could so many people invest so much money without ever demanding some kind of of proof that the new technology actually works? How can a company be worth billions of dollars without ever producing a single functional product? How could a medical device be introduced to the general public without intensive prior testing and an official permit by the authorities? It's mind-boggling! Carreyrou's book is well researched and very informative, so even though I knew quite a bit about the story already, I learned a lot. It's also very well written (as gripping as a good thriller!) and excellently narrated. Highly recommended!

Eine unfassbare, hochspannende « Geschichte », sehr gut und klar gelesen. Man kann gar nicht glauben, was sich da abgespielt hat. Unfassbar, wieviele bekannte und erfolgreiche Persönlichkeiten sich vor den Karren haben spannen lassen. Unglaublich und erschreckend die Methoden zur Verschleierung innerhalb des Unternehmens, der Umgang mit den Angestellten, die Vorgehensweise der Anwälte. Die Personen und Verwicklungen werden sehr gut dargestellt, die Atmosphäre bei Theranos ist greifbar. Absolut hörenswert!

I listened to this audiobook almost in one go. Once started you can‘t really stop. The story is as fascinating as it is unbelievable. The speaker is great and added positively to the lively story by creating a pleasant listening experience.
Highly recommended!
