I listened to this audiobook almost in one go. Once started you can‘t really stop. The story is as fascinating as it is unbelievable. The speaker is great and added positively to the lively story by creating a pleasant listening experience.

Kaum zu glauben, wie es einer jungen, ehrgeizigen Firmengründerin gelingt, Investoren, Kunden und Aufsichtsräte jahrelang zu täuschen. Interessanterweise alles Männer, die sich von ihr um den Finger wickeln lassen. Sehr fesselnd beschrieben und dank des glänzenden Sprechers auch für Leute, die Englisch nicht als Muttersprache haben sehr gut verständlich.

Eine unfassbare, hochspannende « Geschichte », sehr gut und klar gelesen. Man kann gar nicht glauben, was sich da abgespielt hat. Unfassbar, wieviele bekannte und erfolgreiche Persönlichkeiten sich vor den Karren haben spannen lassen. Unglaublich und erschreckend die Methoden zur Verschleierung innerhalb des Unternehmens, der Umgang mit den Angestellten, die Vorgehensweise der Anwälte. Die Personen und Verwicklungen werden sehr gut dargestellt, die Atmosphäre bei Theranos ist greifbar. Absolut hörenswert!

If I didn't know the story was true, i would have found it exaggerated. But it is true and it caught me from the beginning to the end.

Arguably one of the most intriguing books I have read. At times during my reading, I strongly felt like punching certain characters (clearly forgetting that this was a true story that had already occurred). Who needs Netflix with books like this? Great story and I must add that the narrator nailed his performance!!

This was fantastic! I first became aware of the Theranos scandal when legal proceedings against its founder started back in 2021. I read up on it because it's such a fascinating and baffling story. How could this happen? How could this go on for so long? How could so many people invest so much money without ever demanding some kind of of proof that the new technology actually works? How can a company be worth billions of dollars without ever producing a single functional product? How could a medical device be introduced to the general public without intensive prior testing and an official permit by the authorities? It's mind-boggling! Carreyrou's book is well researched and very informative, so even though I knew quite a bit about the story already, I learned a lot. It's also very well written (as gripping as a good thriller!) and excellently narrated. Highly recommended!

Ich habe zuvor den (auch sehr empfehlenswerten) ABC News Podcast The Dropout gehört und schon einige Artikel zu dem Thema gelesen, trotzdem bietet dieses Buch sehr viel Neues. Man bekommt einen guten Einblick in die Strukturen, u.a. die Organisationsstruktur und Managementpraktiken, die wesentlich zum Skandal beigetragen haben. Das Buch ist spannend wie ein Thriller - eine klare Empfehlung für Alle, die als erstes den Wirtschaftsteil der Zeitung lesen.
