Welcome to a very special episode of What Do You Have 2 Say? 🎙️ Today, Uriah and Phil gather to honor the remarkable life of Miss Dolly Rebecca Parton. It is so easy to get caught up in the larger than life image or the jokes about her iconic look. Beneath that public shine lived a deeply grounded and authentically human soul. She never compromised her beliefs or forgot her Appalachian roots.
We explore her incredible journey from growing up poor in a family of twelve children to becoming a global icon. Her daddy was a Pentecostal preacher and that faith echoed throughout her entire life and catalog. We reflect on her brilliant songwriting and that bold moment she famously told Elvis Presley he could not have half the publishing rights to I Will Always Love You. We also share plenty of laughter while revisiting her hilarious comedic timing in the film 9 to 5 alongside Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.
Dolly brought an undeniable light to this world. She launched the Imagination Library in 1995 and eventually mailed three million books every single month to children across the globe. She was real where it counts. We shed a few tears but mostly we celebrate the joy she gave us all. Thank you for the music and the magic Dolly. 🦋 Let us keep her spirit alive and shine bright while making room for others to do the same.
