A fast-paced international crime thriller full of treachery and deceit and laced with dark humour.Who is the man with no past who walks into MI6 offering to provide information on dissidentIrish republicans?Who is behind the network of criminals smuggling millions of cigarettes into the country? Is Frank McBride really going to come out of retirement and risk his life to answer bothquestions? And can Bernard Taylor intervene to avert disaster?Official investigations, secret operations and a private inquiry run side by side until they collide in a dramatic climax.Fans of Mick Herron, Joy Ellis, Colin Dexter and SJ Richards will love this. What readers are saying about the Frank McBride series.Marvellous, interwoven plot; fascinating insights into the practices and minds of criminal and counter-criminal operatives locked in a dangerous game of trying to outwit each other; clever denoument. So well thought out with so many twists and turns. I couldn’t put it down!Dane’s greatest achievement is Frank McBride himself. He avoids the typical "hard-drinking loner" cliché by imbuing him with such a profound back story and intellectual depth that you can't help but be compelled by his journey.A subtle blend of all you’d expect in a good crime novel, with some unexpected and engrossing ingredients added. The author has settled into his characters, it is as tightly plotted and gripping as its predecessor while also often being very funny. Top marks.©2024 Michael Dane (P)2026 Michael McLoughlin International Mystery & Crime Mystery Thriller & Suspense
