My Unleashing, Memoir of a Queer Dad is a chronicle of my post-divorce journey to find the comfort of self as a “single” person; to find a sense of place, of home, and an inner peace in an increasingly chaotic world; to tap into the core elements of my strength and dissolve deep-seeded fears of rejection and loneliness. The book artfully incorporates profound passages from authors of non-fiction and fiction tomes, as well as inspirational words from complete strangers and snippets of popular love songs. It’s a love story, a telling of spiritual awakening, it’s a motivational tool – with, of, and for myself. I hope it can be so for others, no matter their social status, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, physicality, or age.
Of course, such a chronicle would not be complete without sharing my “learning” experiences of men. Experiences that will make you laugh out loud as I describe my deer-in-the-headlights/blonde-rooted naivete during an eight-month long crash course on gay culture while, at the age of sixty-two, completing two culinary internships in two of the most popular gay meccas in the USA. Add in… mmm… varying degrees of provocative behavior, the description of which may illicit reactions ranging from nervous giggles to knuckle-biting gasps.
Obviously, such content should NOT be viewed by minors, folks with heart conditions, or my adult children.
