Bloomsbury presents Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

‘One of the best fantasy book series of the past decade’ TIME
From the #1 bestselling author of A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass is the first book in the epic, bestselling fantasy series that has captivated readers worldwide.

Enter the realm. Unleash the darkness. Live the legend.

In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. Celaena Sardothien has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a deadly competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.

But something rotten dwells in the castle – and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival – and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world, and the people she has come to love.©2012 Sarah J. There is the 18 year old notorious „best“ assassin (who has 2 lives worth of experience and still behaves like an insecure 14 year old) competing in a competition for cutthroats after she has been caught. Her thoughts revolve around dresses and men’s attention. There is the worldbuilding with a king forbidding magic (why and however). Of course there are two men to decide between. Of course she is dazzlingly beautiful. And can play the piano so well she makes people cry. And of course she also loves to read (there must be a parallel between her and the reader).

So many stupid tropes, but still a fun read.

Celeana is a typical protagonist for Sarah J Maas, beautiful, strong, gets EVERY man's attention, sarcastic. That's not a problem in itself, I could just personally identify myself better with her if she had insecurities or flaws or if her character acted impulsively or wrong sometimes, including some consequences. Just a little more realism, no one is perfect and never acts out. And of course she gets along really well with her archenemies, we know that from ACOTAR .. why do Dorian and ... the captain see her as trustworthy and joke around with her like 2 days after they met? A bit strange ... The story itself is exciting and the story about magic is interesting, it is also very well written :)
The ending with the old queen was a bit far-fetched, why is Celeana so important to her? Otherwise I don't really have any complaints, I hope Celeana and the captain get together, they are cute.

Nice story, characters can be improved

I really loved the solid world building. It was easy to follow, and it had an interesting main story. It took me a minute to really grow interested in all the characters, but I think that’s totally normal when you’re reading your first book in a series. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a solid story, well, rounded characters, and a romance that is important, but not the reason for the story.

Loved it.

This was great! The narration was very week done and the story is so good. Liked it more than ACOTAR and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Highly recommend!
