A welcome return to Vianne Rocher and the village in rural France that was the setting for Joanne Harris's remarkable and much-loved number one bestseller Chocolat. Perfect for fans of Victoria Hislop, Fiona Valpy, Maggie O'Farrell and Rachel Joyce.

*********************************************************************************

It isn't often you receive a letter from the dead.

When Vianne Rocher receives a letter from beyond the grave, she allows the wind to blow her back to the village in south-west France where, eight years ago, she opened up a chocolate shop. But Lansquenet is different now: women veiled in black, the scent of spices and peppermint tea, and, on the bank of the river Tannes, facing the church: a minaret.

Nor is it only the incomers from North Africa that have brought change. Father Reynaud, Vianne's erstwhile adversary, is disgraced and under threat.

Could it be that Vianne is the only one who can save him now?

Opinie krytyków

Her characteristic love affair with texture – scents, smells and sounds – immerses the reader in a bath of seductive imagery in a brave and grippingly confected story.
Like Chocolat, this book is a feast for the senses. Every page of the book is steeped in scents, colours and tastes, without ever tipping into the pretentious or showy. The writing is seductive and engaging throughout; and the magic, too, is intrinsic without ever being soppy or embarrassing. What is magic (or religion),after all, if not an ability to understand the human heart? Peaches for Monsieur le Curé is a wonderful return to form for Harris.
Expertly crafted,typically mouthwatering.
An enchanting read, ripe for summer picking.
A wide-ranging, powerful and very readable novel. I loved it.
A delightful jumble of the sensuous sights, sounds and smells the author describes so well.
Fasting and feasting, magic and mysticism are once again at the heart of this author's storytelling sorcery.

I love the novels of Joanne Harris, especially the ones about Vianne Rocher.
This ist the third volume of the Vianne Rocher series, and I love it as much as the first two - but I would have preferred a different reading voice.

The first book - Chocolat - was read by Joanne Harris herself - an absolute treat! :-)
The second one - The Lollipop Shoes - was read by Juliet Stevenson, who does an equally good job, but it takes some getting used to hearing Vianne speak with a different voice.
This third book takes even more getting used to, because the voice of Rula Lenska is so very different from Harris's, and, in my opinion, is just not right for a young woman. I find it very difficult to imagine Vianne Rocher when listening to that voice.

On the other hand, I like the idea of having Curé Reynaud's passages read by a male voice - Gareth Armstrong's.

Still, a shame that Joanne Harris couldn't have read all the three books. That would have been perfect.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed listening to this book and will certainly do so again.

Great book! Reading voice not ideal

What a shame, I am disappointed with this book as I could not identify myself with the protagonists. I really had to force myself to even start the second part of the book. The two speakers did not really help to make this book more interesting to me.

Vianne has lost her magic.

Vianne, you've lost your magic
