‘Fantasy as it ought to be written’ George R.R. Martin

The kingdom of the Six Duchies is on the brink of civil war when news breaks that the crown prince has fathered a bastard son and is shamed into abdication. The child’s name is Fitz, and he is despised.

Raised in the castle stables, only the company of the king’s fool, the ragged children of the lower city, and his unusual affinity with animals provide Fitz with any comfort.

To be useful to the crown, Fitz is trained as an assassin; and to use the traditional magic of the Farseer family. But his tutor, allied to another political faction, is determined to discredit, even kill him. Fitz must survive: for he may be destined to save the kingdom.

Opinie krytyków

'Hobb is one of the great modern fantasy writers … what makes her novels as addictive as morphine is not just their imaginative brilliance but the way her characters are compromised and manipulated by politics.'
The Times
‘In today’s crowded fantasy market Robin Hobb’s books are like diamonds in a sea of zircons’
George R.R. Martin
‘Hobb is superb’ Conn Iggulden
‘Hobb is a remarkable storyteller’ Guardian
‘This is a historical novel with a sly touch of magic. The first in the Farseer trilogy, this book will get new readers hooked on a series that recalls HBO’s Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings’ Telegraph

Absolute misery porn without meaning or earned catharsis. When the Reader gets to the point where they actively want the Protagonist to off themselves you've made a serious blunder as an Author. Only recommended if you seriously enjoy trauma Lit, i Guess. Very litten catharsis at the end, not Worth the misery you have to sit through.

Just read The Way of Shadows instead

First book in a world with 16 books. One of the best epic fantasy series I‘ve ever read/listened to. Also a very nice and complex storytelling, slow paced at the beginning, but very addictive nevertheless. Would recommend 100% and the narrator is amazing!

Amazing!

I loved the way Hobb fused us with the protagonist, revealing things to us along the way that we may only realize in retrospect should've been odd but didn't felt that way because they were as natural as feeling and seeing to Fitz. The style of a master storyteller retelling his own story is a wonderful literary device that greatly appreciate, it give a perfect mix between character immersion and peaks into hindsight omniscience. If you are as passionate about The Name of the Wind as I am, there's a good chance you'll enjoy Assassin's Apprentice for it's subtle magic, rich narration, and slowly unfolding world of political intrigue, diverse people's, and discovering and being fooled by it all through an apprentice's perspective.

Beautiful storytelling, Masterfully narrated

the narrator is incredible, I'm immediately looking up more books narrated by him to buy them just for his voice.

This book is incredible just on its own merit, probably my favorite book in a year or so. Cannot wait to read more. I'd recommend this to absolutely anyone!

beautiful voices, my favorite story
