Über diesen Titel

The mesmerising retelling from the woman at the heart of one of Ancient Greece's most famous myths.

Ariadne, Princess of Crete and daughter of the fearsome King Minos, grows up hearing stories of gods and heroes. But beneath the golden palace something else stirs, the hoofbeats and bellows echoing from the Labyrinth below. Every year its captive, the Minotaur—Ariadne's brother—demands blood.

When Theseus, Prince of Athens, arrives as a sacrifice to the beast, Ariadne sees in him her chance to escape. But helping Theseus kill the monster means betraying her family and country, and Ariadne knows only too well that drawing the attention of the mercurial gods may cost her everything.

In a world where women are nothing more than the pawns of powerful men, will Ariadne's decision to risk everything for love ensure her happy ending? Or will she find herself sacrificed for her lover's ambition?

Ariadne gives a voice to the forgotten women of one of the most famous Greek myths. Beautifully written and completely immersive, this exceptional debut novel is perfect for fans of Circe, A Song of Achilles, and The Silence of The Girls.

A truly stunning retelling of Greek Mythology through the female lens performed by a fantastic narrator with an amazing range of expression and a voice that sounds like melting honey and velvet.

Painfully beautiful

the ending was quite shocking! All in all quite liked the story and performance!

did not expect that ending!

It feels like the idea of telling classic legends from the perspective of the women is en vogue. And generally speaking a good idea (eg Circe), but in this case it seems there’s just not enough story to be told. After three hours I just couldn’t bear hearing anymore of how supposedly profound and difficult the narrators emotions are.

A sequence of melodramatic thought monologues

The book could have been cut in half. It drags on endlessly without purpose or aim. Characters are dull and shallow. Writing is very basic.

Tiring and boring

Was it really necessary- this Shakespearean melodramatic voice play? Almost unbearable to listen to. I despise Phaedra sooo much because of her shrilling shouting voice. Now beside the performance, the characters are so dull and Ariadne’s monologue full of cliches, endless, at traits annoying. Yes, we get it - antic Greek wasn’t best place to be born as a women but surely there must be more to tell. This is for the first time that I find a modern retelling more boring than an original story in full Homer’s style. Sorry.

Overacting & boring 🤢
