And yet, I was missing the usual passionate romance I always loved in her novels. Come on: Bluebell and Spark - that could have been on fire. We get an in depth description of the backstories leading to their long anticipated union, yet their story kind of falls apart after their first tentative steps into a relationship. This is very disappointing and I had the feeling that their story as a couple only starts when the novel ends. If you are fond of these characters, you can still enjoy them patching up their fight and growing as individual characters. If you‘re looking for a Bluebell ignited by Sparks of passion, you may have to wait (and hope)for the next novel.

Trying not to be to specific to avoid spoilers.
This installment focuses heavily on character backstory and the resolution of previously established friendship/ relationship issues between the two main protagonist.
It (mainly) takes place in china, in the aftermath of the cataclysmic events with Lijuan.
It has very little action, only small amounts of romance, but an interesting little mystery on the side.
With the right expectations, and as a constant reader, a very satisfying read :-)

My main gripes: Romance is introduced very late in the story.
And the reasons for one character's mind "to shatter" like that could have used more exploration. I don't get why the event was as devastating for the hummingbird as a mature adult. It makes her seem small.
