Political conflicts on Earth erupt into open hostilities between their colonies in space, with Xenomorphs as the ultimate weapon.
On Earth, political tensions boil over between the United Americas, Union of Progressive Peoples, and Three World Empire. Conflict spreads to the outer fringes, and the UK colony of New Albion breaks with the Three World Empire. This could lead to a Colony War.
Trapped in the middle are journalist Cher Hunt, scientist Chad McLaren, and the synthetic Davis. Cher, seeking to discover who caused the death of her sister, Shy Hunt, uncovers a far bigger story. McLaren’s mission, fought alongside his wife, Amanda Ripley, is to stop the militarization of the deadliest weapon of all—the Xenomorph.
Their trail leads to a drilling facility on LV-187. Someone or something has destroyed it, killing the personnel, and the British are blamed. Colonial forces arrive, combat erupts, then both groups are overwhelmed by an alien swarm. Their only hope may lie with the Royal Marines unit known as “God’s Hammer”.

A really good Audiobook
I enjoyed the audiobook quite alot, likeable charakters, solid alien story and the narrator was pretty good.

Well...
Apart from being unapologetic political in the modern sense in it's "messages" (women are always mistreated, poc are always mistreated, every soldier is an asshole by choice, religion is bad) the book, or, well, the author, tries to be funny or clever, probably both, by having his characters spell out certain tropes for the reader. Not only is it not clever, it is annoying and it would've been a much smarter move to simply not use said tropes, maybe even undermine them.
Another highly annoying thing, the worst thing in my opinion even, is the lack of understanding or interest the author shows for the world of Alien.
For example:
Every weapon, even the pistols, are at some time called pulse rifles and pulse rifles fire round, sometimes, but mostly "pulse shot", "pulse rounds" or something like that. Pistols, too. Mistakes like that were understandable back when the m41a was a new idea in freshly released movie, but now, after decades of stories and background information it's no mere mistale, but obvious disregard for the source material.

Sadly almost completely bland and uninteresting
One of the most bland of the new Alien novels so far. I hate to say it, but it totally lacks any interesting development, the plot is completely foreseeable. This was a huge disappointment. Many of the more recent Alien novels had severe problems, be it the overall plot or lack of likeable characters, but at least they got some idea of tension, which this one sadly mostly lacks. Ever since Scott Siglers exquisite "Phalanx" I am anticipating another great entry to this book series, still waiting...
