The usual pattern of a slowly developing thriller, with various narrators/perspectives, going back and forth between the present and the past, and the climax and miraculous rescue right before the end of the story.
The boy Jake in the story is depicted very well, with all his teenage thoughts, this is one of the highlights in the story.
The description of the deserted Swedish village is also quite interesting, but on the whole I'd say it's a good thriller, nothing more than that.
