Stranded by a raging hurricane, a group of strangers find themselves trapped at a grand antebellum mansion, now a boutique hotel. The tempest outside mirrors the chaos within the mansion's walls, and plot devices from Callum’s book become clues as truth and fiction collide in a deadly narrative.

But suddenly, famous novelist Callum Burke is found murdered, hanging from an oak tree in a gruesome recreation of a scene from his own bestselling book. Cut off from the world by rising floodwaters, the guests must face the reality that a killer is hiding among them.

This started strong and never slowed down. It’s a classic “whodunnit" that kept me hooked from the start.

Shapiro does a great job at world-building, so while reading, you really feel the claustrophobic vibes of being trapped in the hotel.

I didn’t see the plot twist coming. I was convinced I knew who did it, but I was completely wrong. Seeing how everyone’s motives and secrets eventually tied together was a great payoff.

A classic “whodunnit”!

Unterhaltsam, aber die Mischung von Motiven klassischer whodunits war schon recht früh erkennbar. Hätte es mir etwas origineller gewünscht, aber es hört sich gut weg nebenbei. Setting ist lebendig beschrieben. Gelesen ist es super.
