Set adrift on the tides of fate by the deaths of her parents and left wanting answers, Laura Callaway now lives with her uncle and his disapproving wife in North Cornwall. There she feels like a castaway, always viewed as an outsider even as she yearns to belong.

While wreckers search for valuables along the windswept Cornwall coast - known for its many shipwrecks but few survivors - Laura searches for clues to the lives lost so she can write letters to next of kin and return keepsakes to rightful owners. When a man is washed ashore after a wreck, Laura acts quickly to protect him from a local smuggler determined to destroy him.

As Laura and a neighbor care for the survivor, they discover he has curious wounds and, although he speaks in careful, educated English, his accent seems odd. Other clues wash ashore, and Laura soon realizes he is not who he seems to be. Despite the evidence against him, the mysterious man might provide her only chance to discover the truth about her parents' fate. With danger pursuing them from every side, and an unexpected attraction growing between them, will Laura ever find the answers she seeks?

Am relevantesten
I admire people who narrate stories for others so I would not lightly give so few stars. But I'm afraid that while the heroine's voice was quite nice I couldn't bring myself to finish the audiobook because the heros voice interpretation frequently gave me the impression of an 80 year old which totally ruined the experience for me. I really wish I hadn't bought it.

wunderschöne Geschichte, mit tollen Charakteren. Besonders die Geschichte und Traditionen Cornwalls fand ich spannend, gut erzählt und passend in die Geschichte eingeflochten.

Etwas weniger Glaube und Religion hätte es auch getan, aber davon abgesehen eine schöne Geschichte, interessante Settings, nette Protagonisten und nicht nur heile Welt. Das Cornwall-Flair hat mir sehr gefallen und Fernweh geweckt. Gut gesprochen, wenn mir auch persönlich die Stimme bei Alexander nicht gefallen hat (wirkte irgendwie zu alt). Dank Akzent aber gut von den anderen zu unterscheiden.

Thank you for the interesting and capturing story, as well as the brilliant narration. I'm not a historian but I've recently read quite a bit about Napoleon and his time, so I find this book, though fiction, a quite entertaining addition.

Wonderful Story

The historic connections are interesting, forgiving an important theme. I love books with happy endings. Unfortunatly the narration almost stopped me from continuing the book several times, her low voice she used for every (!!!) male and older women s voice gave me a sore througt each time, not a nice feeling! This uniform, painful to listen to unnatural low voice also makes it hard to follow, as this voice gives away no clue, If the speaker ist male, female, Friends or hostile,.. it is just rusty and very slow and tired sounding. French words are frequently, though not always mispronounced, which keeps you thinking " What s that she meant?", .. Overall nice book but the narration spoils the pleasure of listening.
