Über diesen Titel

A psychologist and best-selling author gives us a myth-busting response to the self-help movement, with tips and tricks to improve your life that come straight from the scientific community.

Richard Wiseman has been troubled by the realization that the self-help industry often promotes exercises that destroy motivation, damage relationships, and reduce creativity: the opposite of everything it promises. Now, in 59 Seconds, he fights back, bringing together the diverse scientific advice that can help you change your life in under a minute, and guides you toward becoming more decisive, more imaginative, more engaged, and altogether more happy.

From mood to memory, persuasion to procrastination, resilience to relationships, Wiseman outlines the research supporting the new science of “rapid change” and, with clarity and infectious enthusiasm, describes how these quirky, sometimes counterintuitive techniques can be effortlessly incorporated into your everyday life. Or, as he likes to say: “Think a little, change a lot.”©2009 Richard Wiseman; (P)2009 Random House

Kritikerstimmen

"This is a self-help book, but with a difference: almost everything in it is underpinned by peer-reviewed and often fascinating research."
— New Scientist

"For all those who are tired of the usual self-help formula--homespun anecdotes, upbeat platitudes, over-the-top promises--Richard Wiseman's 59 Seconds is just what the PhD ordered."
— The Wall Street Journal

"Seemingly perfect for this age of short attention spans and instant gratification."
— The Chronicle Herald

"At last, a self-help guide that is based on proper research. Perfect for busy, curious, smart people."
— Simon Singh, author of Fermat's Enigma

“Wiseman is a brilliant name for a psychologist, and this book proves the professor is not misnamed. . . . [59 Seconds] contains dozens of fascinating and useful nuggets, and they all have science on their side.”

I like the book for its multifaceted view on human behavior and describes the scientific research behind it. It introduces quite some scientific studies as a base to support his approaches, which I personally like.
First I was a bit confused that it deals with many different areas of life so I was first looking for a common threat, but looking back I enjoyed the reading especially because of this broader spectrum. It covers human behavior in all kinds of different settings.

Great insights into how we work

I would have loved audible chapters to be named, not numbered and also one chapter to end where it ends in the book not to contiunue in the next audible part. It makes it hard to come back to the parts I enjoyed and want to apply.

While the author claims to have everything very well documwnted scientifically, some findings at the end of the book are controversial, like the index and ring finger length, which predict masculinity.

Overall a good book for pub conversation.

A bit of everything

The book gives another look at widely spread myths about finding happiness, being succesfull and finding the right partner. It keeps falling into old trails built by books published years before with relatively same ideas and content.

One of better self help books.

Having read many of the books cited by this one it feels like a recap. If i had started with this book rather than i would have good results faster.

Great introduction, if you’ve read many other books on the topics some chapter will be more review than novelty.

Great board introduction to many themes
