the ending was maybe alittle too imaginative for my taste but I guess thats what sci-fi is all about. I'd have preferred to read more about the implications back on earth.

Spoiler warning! I expected to be dissapointed due to the hype around this story (never meet your legends) but was blown away. Considering the age of this story I was impressed by how valid it is still today. One of the best (maybe THE best) first contact stories I have ever experienced. And the thought of the lone astronaut, stranded a billion miles from home all alone, knowing that he cannot be rescued and is destined to die alone in the cold, dark grip of space, only to discover his true mission to make first contact with aliens? Thrilling, chilling, terrifying, awesome, exhillerating, in one word EPIC! ps: also really enjoyed the first few chapters viewed from the prespecrive of one of our ape-like ancestors.

During the first few chapters, I had my doubt if I would like this book but then it really built up. Also considering the time, when it had been written, it is really impressive how much validity is still has. I also liked the spiritual dimension in it. Just wow!

Egal ob Sci-Fi Fan oder nicht, jede*r sollte einmal dieses Werk gelesen haben. 2001: A Space Odyssey ist ein Masterpiece, vor allem wenn man bedenkt in welchem Jahr es geschrieben wurde. Man liest oder hört es mit so einer Leichtigkeit, mit so viel Leidenschaft, es fühlt sich an als ob man die Traumwelt direkt vor seinen Augen hat. Einfach himmlisch...

Ein Masterpiece

Ein besonderer Bonus dieser Aufnahme, der in der Beschreibung gar nicht aufscheint, ist die Einführung: ein Interview mit Arthur C. Clarke aus dem Jahre 2000. Darin beschreibt er seine Zusammenarbeit mit Stanley Kubrick und die Entstehung der Geschichte im New Yorker Chelsea Hotel.

Film und Buch entstanden Hand in Hand und die einzige Abweichung - im Buch fliegt "Discovery" zum Saturn statt (nur) zum Jupiter - wird auch erklärt. Die Hollywood-Tricktechniker hatten sich den Saturn nicht zugetraut...

Zu dieses Buch: man muss es einfach gelesen bzw. die von Dick Hill hervorragend gelesene Audioversion gehört haben, um den Film besser (wirklich?) zu verstehen. Beides brillant und unvergleichlich
