"Every country in the world loved the folklore of the West - the music, the dress, the excitement, everything that was associated with the opening of a new territory. It took everybody out of their own little world. The cowboy lasted 100 years, created more songs and prose and poetry than any other folk figure. The closest thing was the Japanese samurai. Now, I wonder who'll continue it." (John Wayne)
From the Ringo Kid in Stagecoach to "Rooster" Cogburn in True Grit, John Wayne was a screen legend whose stellar performances ensured that his legacy as an icon of the American West would live on forever. But what of the man away from the cameras? What drove him to succeed as an actor and win every major award in show business? Journey through this incredible life and learn how Wayne got his big break in The Big Trail in 1930, before embarking on a highly-prolific career that would result in Oscar success 39 years later. Packed fascinating insight, this publication reviews John Wayne's life and career from his earliest appearances through to his many leading roles.
