Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

Discover the gloriously inventive and funny fantasy novel from bestselling author Terry Pratchett, the first book in the City Watch series, part of the Discworld novels.

'Noble dragons don't have friends. The nearest they can get to the idea is an enemy who is still alive.'

The city of Ankh-Morpork is in turmoil, its citizens revolting. Again.

A shadowy secret brotherhood has summoned a dragon to spread terror throughout the city, intent on overthrowing the Patrician and ruling in his place. Too bad the dragon has ideas of its own ...

It's up to Captain Sam Vimes and the ramshackle Night Watch to stop it. Only problem is, the Watch are more used to dealing with mobs than dragons.

And if they can't bring down this fire-breathing tyrant and reinstate their own, slightly less dangerous one, Ankh-Morpork might be lost. For ever...

Guards! Guards! is the first book in the City Watch series, but you can read the Discworld novels in any order.

'This is one of Pratchett's best books. Hilarious and highly recommended'

'Pratchett is at the peak of his powers; it's hard to think of any humorist writing in Britain today who can match him...A masterful ear for dialogue, a keen eye for the ridiculous and a real feel for language'
'The best humorous English author since P.G. Wodehouse'

This is the first of the Nightwatch books and introduces us to Captain Sam Vines who starts as a disillusioned drunk but finds his true leadership qualities when a dangerous dragon threatens the town of Ankh-Morpork. It reads like a modern fairytale but is so much more. Puns galore plus so many wry and accurate observations on the state of society. Each of the many characters develop in their own way and the way they interact is a joy to read (or listen to, as I did).

Dragons, guards, magic - and a lot of fun!

I love these new recordings and happily alternate between the old and the new. Every reader emphasizes different aspects of the characters - giving new insights into the individual characters and their interaction with each other.

As fabulous as always

There is a reason this is one of Sir Terry's most adapted books (TV, plays, graphic novels): The story is wonderfully structured, the humour still holds up more than 30 years later and the characters are well written and easy to connect to. The decision to have dedicated voice actors for Death and the infamous Pratchett footnotes is inspired: especially the footnotes read by Bill Nighy are delightfully sarcastic at times. Jon Culshaw's choices for the different characters' voices also are contributing to a very enjoyable listening experience.

Great voice acting brings a classic novel to life

The narrator isn't bad per se, but quite often you wonder if the person he narrates would apply the tone he does. Quite often they wouldn't. His little pauses take up 20% of the audiobook. I don't know why the Stephen Briggs Version isn't available anymore

Not as good as Stephen Briggs
