Life smashing your walls? Build them taller. Then put auto-turrets on them.

Joe the Ritualist and the town of Novusheim have survived their first major battle, at the cost of leaving most of the settlement a smoking crater. Only most of it. The core of the town survived, and permanent casualties were low. Now that the survivors have a better understanding of what to expect, they go on a reconstruction spree...but why stop there? Every inch of their upgraded defenses will be more potent, durable, and deadlier than ever before.

Even as Joe is kneeling knee-deep in blueprints, an urgent message arrives; sending the Ritualist venturing across the frozen wastelands of Jotunheim. With the safety of his own town mostly ensured for the moment, they can’t make him stay...but not a single person wants him to leave. Trusting the wrong person has been Joe’s downfall more than once. As the cherry on top, Grandmaster Havoc tasks Joe with obliterating any Elven settlement he comes across.

It's better to end threats early on, before they have a chance to stab you in the back.

He is back and Joe has a tasklist that is so long it’ll never get boring or tedious to listen to him getting stronger, improving or obsessing over a certain architect.
Another wonderful entry into the series by both, the performer and the author

So much to do and all of it is fun and interesting

ich bin bei diesem Hörbuch jedes Mal aufs neue überrascht, welche Wendungen genommen werden und wohin die nächste Entscheidung führt! Einfach toll

I always enjoy listening to this series. Even do the last book was a little bit disapointing. This one was way better. Well in my opinion. Finaly joe starts talking back. Not letting people push him around. Well less then usual atleast

I loved it

Rassistisch

So the mainstory has not earnestly been touched since book 5 and at this point with high probability never will be. Fillerarc galore. The fillerplot here is hunting the Mcguffin/Daniella. Continuesly huge missed opportunity to give the Elveside some true substance beyond one dimensional baddies. Also the narrator just never reached Vikas Adam's level, I personally don't like his newer growly gruff voice choices for characters.
Finally from originally five to now one star for this volume and the overall story, because of all that the author has abandoned along the way in favour of faffing about and pulling ridiculous nonsensical solutions out of nowhere and because of what this story could have become instead based on it's initial world building and the first two character-teams on Joe's side (all the Dwarves are one dimensional extras to scuffold Joe's solo grinding). And last but not least of all the better characters that got abandoned the author chose fickle Daniella to bring back and focus on?

mainstory abandoned, the plot has become filler
