The narrator obviously enjoys saying cockkkk-tail. I have no idea whether it’s a regional idiosyncrasy to put that kind of stress on certain syllables. It was quite off-putting and distracting.
The story itself could have been an interesting study of the way a gay single parent deals with society after returning to an obviously homophobic place. But the story just peters out as soon as the main couple come together.
