What it’s about:
After a head injury, Layla struggles to recover emotionally and mentally. Her boyfriend Leeds fears their relationship is falling apart, as she’s changed from joyful and spontaneous to anxious and unstable since leaving the hospital. Hoping to fix things, they return to the bed-and-breakfast where they first fell in love.
There Leeds meets Willow - and the more time he spends with her, the more uncertain he becomes about Layla.
I listened to this audiobook and it was the first book by Colleen Hoover I've read. I went in completely blindly and had no idea what to expect.
At first, I wasn’t sure whether I disliked the narrator or the MMC and after a while I realised that I pretty much hated Leeds. The way he treats Layla was disgusting in my opinion.
I have to clarify that I did NOT dislike the book at any point, but I despised all characters except for Willow.
I really enjoyed how the tension was built. At one point, I had to pause the audiobook for the evening, because I was home alone and it made me jump at every sound. 😂
Then came a plot twist I absolutely did not see coming - and suddenly so many things made sense. I loved how all the loose ends came together in the end.
This book definitely was unexpected. It’s a dark, unsettling and very unique story, I will be thinking about for a while.
