Devil's Cub is read by Michael Maloney, who appears in Coronation Street and The Trial of Christine Keller.

Mary Challoner must protect her sister at all costs.

When she discovers that the notorious Marquis of Vidal is planning to run away with her little sister, Mary will not stand idly by.

To save Sophia's reputation without destroying her own, Mary will take her sister's place - and once the Marquis sees through her disguise, he will be humiliated and forced to return her home.

But the irresistible Marquis is a wilder rake than even Mary anticipated, and her growing feelings for him are proving an unexpected complication...

What a lovely language, what an entertaining witty story and how truly wonderfully read! I am delighted and I wish there were more jewels like that

A rare treat!

"Devil's Cub" by Georgette Heyer deals mainly with Dominic Alastair, the reckless and spoiled Marquis of Vidal, and Mary Challoner, who tries to protect her naive sister from his advancements. What was first meant as a rescue of her sister quickly turns into Mary developing romantic feelings for the Marquis herself.

Georgette Heyer's novel was published in 1932, when role models were very different from today and society's expectations of traditional behaviour by men and women. Lord Vidal, who is a reckless character without obvious morals, wouldn't be seen as a hero nowadays, as times have changed and political correctness is very expected today. Nevertheless, one must take this novel as it is: a piece of fiction that's fun to read. It's not only about reading a love story, but also about enjoying spending time with a story with a good plot, dialogues full of wit, irony and intelligence, and well-developed characters.

Lord Alverstoke‘s and Lady Leonie‘s son is the main character here and while the man himself leaves much to be desired the lady is quite up to snuff and knows how to be at war. In the end, all is well also the wine and the duke and duchess make a nicely staged re- appearance.

Charmante Geschichte
