I truly enjoyed listening to this audio book. What a great first novel. I thought that the author - who only provided his initials - was a woman, but learned that he was indeed a man when I researched it a little bit more online. He very convincingly portrayed the feelings of Christine. Very good thriller which kept me hooked. Loved the twists in the story. The reader Susannah Harker also did a very good job. I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Good story, although she is rather elaborate and takes am incredibly long time getting g to the point. Was very scared at one point there was not going to be a twist to the story. Thank God there was, although was relatively predictable. Good writing, good narrator, but could have all been said without a loss of suspense in half the time.

Aufgrund der guten Kritiken in Großbritannien war ich sehr gespannt auf dieses Hörbuch. Vielleicht waren deshalb meine Erwartungen zu hoch, denn irgendwie hatte ich die ganze Zeit das Gefühl, es würde etwas fehlen.

Die Grundidee ist nichts Besonderes, wie derzeit zahlreiche andere Autoren nutzt S J Watson geschickt die Perspektive einer Hauptfigur, die ihre Gedächnis teilweise verloren hat und zunehmend misstrauisch gegenüber ihrer Umwelt wird. Christine wacht jeden Morgen wie die Hauptfigur aus "50 erste Dates" auf, ihr fehlen jegliche Erinnerungen an die letzten paar Jahre ihres Lebens. Doch irgendwie findet sich ein aufdringlicher Arzt, dem sie sehr vertraut und sie beginnt, ein Tagebuch zu schreiben.

Soweit so gut, doch die Art, wie sie dem völlig fremden Mediziner vertraut und auch einiges andere an Christines Verhalten fand ich unglaubwürdig. Hinzu kommt dann nocht, dass statt Spannung oft Gähnen erzeugt wurde, zuviel umständlich erzählt wurde und manches zu oft wiederholt wurde - Christine muss alles jeden Tag neu lernen, nicht die Hörer bzw. Leser.

Die mir bisher unbekannte Susannah Harker ist für die spröde und unsichere Christine die perfekte Sprecherin. Mit einer weniger überzeugenden Sprecherin hätte ich vermutlich irgendwann in der Mitte abgebrochen, die Papierfassung sicherlich nicht beendet.

Fazit: Nette nicht gerade originelle Idee, die über weite Strecken nicht besonders spannend umgesetzt wurde. Trotz der ausgezeichneten Sprecherin meiner Meinung nach nur bedingt empfehlenswert.

Selten, dass mich ein Hörbuch so packt. Hervorragend gesprochen und auch die Story hat es in sich. Würde ich sofort wieder hören.
