Who are the Sawkill Girls? Marion: The newbie. Awkward and plain, steady and dependable. Zoey: The pariah. Luckless and lonely, hurting but hiding it. Aching with grief and dreaming of vanished girls. Val: The queen bee. Their stories come together on the island of Sawkill Rock, where gleaming horses graze in rolling pastures and cold waves crash against black cliffs. Where kids whisper the legend of an insidious monster at parties and around campfires. Where girls have been disappearing for decades, stolen away by a ravenous evil no one has dared to fight…until now.

After I finished the last book of The Raven Cycle series, by Maggie Stiefvater, I wanted to continue my exploration with young adult books. I got the recommendation for this book by chance and I decided to buy it and listen to it.

• personally, the narrator's voice did absolutely nothing for me. Shrill in some places, which I suppose has something to do with acting out scenes in the book
• Because of this, I found myself really irritated and annoyed at times
• sometimes I felt like it was a tad too much "acting " for me (eye roll)
• I felt like there was way more intrigue in Maggie's characters, I didn't relate to these as much as I would have liked too
• there is so much maaaagic in Maggie's books and mind you, I am not a young adult anymore BUT I absolutely enjoy her books

Long story short, I was foolish to have such high expectations after reading such wonderful books by Maggie Stiefvater and I would not recommend this book to a friend.

Would I recommend this book to someone who loves reading? No. It would probably be the last book on my mind when it comes to that. I guess the idea behind it, isn't too bad but I feel like that extra bit is missing to make it unforgettable. I think the word I am looking for is "mellow" to describe my feelings towards the book.

I wish that I would have tried another book to be honest, because I had an inkling quite early in the story already, what the end game was going to be...and that to me, is not a good story. maybe I have read too many thrillers already but *sigh*...

So I am not going to write a long review because personally, I prefer it short and sweet. If you have read books like "Girl on the train" or Stephen King's newest book than don't bother reading this unless your a big fan or have no reading experience at all. maybe it'll blow you away if you're a first time reader. 😉 But it just didn't do it for me although I did like the character Sophie quite a bit.

On a quiet, gray Saturday morning, Livy arrives at her best friend Julia's flat for a lunch date only to find her dead. Though all the evidence supports it, Livy cannot accept the official ruling of suicide; the Julia she remembers was loud, inappropriate, joyful, outrageous, and loving, not depressed.

The storyline is good and was read really well but I feel like there is not enough suspense. There are some creepy stuff happening in this book but nothing that left me in awe. I had an idea quite early on who was guilty and though it was still exciting to listen to at the end, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I just expected so much more because of the way the book was described and because of the other book "Gone girl". My verdict, buy and read it if you're a fan but it's not one of the best books I have ever read.

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

This is the first audio book I finished within just days of purchasing it. Sometimes I find my mind wandering when I listen to books but this story left me wanting more, even long after I had finished with it. And funnily enough, I even felt sad when the story came to an end.

I absolutely adore King but even I will admit that sometimes, King likes to take his time with the build-up, which can become tedious. However, with this book I feel like King has outdone himself again.

The story and characters not only arouse your interest but they also keep it, during the whole story! I felt like I was personally involved in the story and I drew my own conclusions, I chose sides and had opinions. I have never been so involved in a story, as if I actually personally knew the characters. Yet King reveals nothing, keeping you in suspense, making you question your opinions, thoughts and feelings, as you delve deeper into his world.

Yes, it may not be the most original story but it's enthralling, eccentric, mysterious and exciting with a hint of King, just the way I like it.

The narrator has a great voice and portrays the characters and story amazingly well. I would definitively love to listen to him again. So very pleased that I purchased this book.☺

I read that somewhere that it was a bestseller but I sometimes wonder when listening to a book, wether it would have been different, had I actually bought a hardcover. But this book evoked so many emotions in me. Beautifully written and superbly written. Now I know why I fell in love with Karen Rose' s stories to begin with.

Wink is the odd, mysterious neighbor girl, with wild red hair and freckles. Poppy is the blond bully and the beautiful, manipulative high school queen bee. Midnight is the sweet, uncertain boy caught between them. Wink. Poppy. Midnight. Two girls. One boy. Three voices that burst into the audio in short, sharp, bewitching chapters, and spiral swiftly and inexorably toward something terrible or tricky or tremendous.

I am a little sad that the book was so short. The ending was also a little disappointing, leaving you wanting more. I started reading Sidney Sheldon at the age of 13/14 and I have always loved his writing. It takes some getting used to listening to Sidney reading the book but after a while, it doesn't matter that he is not the best out there. The story is short and straight to the point. It's interesting to see why and how the nuns ended up in the nunnery in the first place and how their way of thinking, leads them to experience different situations. I love how Sidney Sheldon always placed women at the center of his storyline. So sad that we lost one of the best authors of a lifetime!

I found a review of this book online, calling it one of the most scariest stories ever but I expected more. There are probably only two really interesting and scary scenes in this book which will make for a good scare, late at night when you're home alone but that's about it. Ray Porter is alright as narrator but not my personal favourite.
